I’ve been selling books online for quite sometime, so I actualy bought this book for my daughter, who’s now a stay-at-home mom, having left a fairly powerful corporate job to be at home with her children. So, I can’t tell you how surprised I was when I started looking through it and found tips and techniques I had never used, thought of or heard of from other sellers. The author also embedded a tremendous amount of information in stories, and profiles of different sellers and their business models. It really made the book enjoyable, even though I tend to dislike nonfiction. It read like “Rich Dad Poor Dad” but had both step-by-step instructions, for people just getting started, and ideas for people like me who already have businesses but want ideas for making more money and finding more high-dollar books. She spent more time than any of the other authors I’ve read helping the reader recognize and find high-dollar books. She even gave tiles of books, under all the different categories (including VHS tapes, cassettes, and Cd’s), to help with name recognition and even the names of series that are worth a lot of money. I really didn’t know a lot about finding these high dollar older technical books, that I usually pass buy, but she taught me how to recognize the good ones and market them to sell. I like her model of selling a low-quantity of high-dollar books, but she gave very careful instructions on high-volume selling of books with a lower sales rank, that are easy to find. I also was impressed with her chart that showed how her business evolved as she improved it with different techniques. So she backed up everything she said in a cahrt that was worth a thousand words. I learned a lot and expect to start making more money, but when I give it to my daughter, she can use all the sample confirmation letters and letters for getting negative feedback removed etc, so she’ll have a jump start on her business that I didn’t have. I was really inspired, and motivated about improving my inventory and sales, making more in less time, and developing a long term plan. Overall I can’t beleive she covered so much information in such an interesting, witty, storyteller’s style. I think you’ll be really surprised–it’s like no other book I’ve found on the subject–with quite a unique vantage point. The only mistake I think she made is to limit her sales to stay-at-home moms with the title, when it’s definately for anyone, new or established in the business.

This is a very readable “how-to” book! It’s so interesting and well written that my husband (who has no plans to sell used books on Amazon) happened to pick it up where I had left it and ended up reading it just for pleasure! So I had the double bonus of getting both an enjoyable and easy-to-read manual, and one that clearly explained everything I needed to know in order to start selling used books online. The manual outlines all the nuts and bolts of the process while offering lots of encouragement and practical advice. And I really enjoyed reading about the author’s personal experiences with her business. Ms. Miller’s friendly and informative style and her step-by-step explanations gave me the motivation and confidence that I could actually start my own home-based business. Thanks for a great manual!

I haven’t written a book review before, but I wanted to write a few words
about this guide. The book starts out with an inspiration section, which
really helps the reader understand what the opportunities are. The author
also gives specific figures about how much money can be made, using real
numbers from the life of the author and other people she knows, working
in the field. She then lays out a step-by-step plan, based on her experience and expertise, which is a very specific guide to making the
money you need. She gives real examples, uses a graph, and has an
interesting method of finding books worth money, so you don’t have to
spend as much time selling lots of books to reach your goal.

I’ve only been in the business of selling book for several months. I’ve learned quite a bit through trial and error, mostly by my mistakes. If only I had known of this book before I began. It would have saved me much time and even more money. I loved the author’s humorous style of writing and vast knowledge of the book selling business. It was because of this book that my business has escalated more than I ever thought possible. And she’s right–there ARE enough books to go around for everyone. I’ve been so frustrated by trying to learn more information for my business. The forum on Amazon is not that helpful, because so many view anyone as the competition and thereby off limits to enlighten them. Many thanks to the author for her generous, informative help for the rest of us.

How to Sell Books on Amazon isn’t just a how-to manual for fledgling bookmen (the title notwithstanding), it is the ultimate how-to book for anyone who aspires to write a how-to book.
If only every author would put as much thought, care and concern into their material. Christine Miller knows how to mind meld with her audience. She lays out her program with an upbeat style that’s like a visit with her to the local Barnes & Noble cafĂ©, where you talk the book business on a coffee jag, the ideas “exploding like spiders across the stars,” as Jack Kerouac said.
As Ms. Miller suggests, it’s a good idea to read other bookselling guides. “No one bookseller knows everything there is to know,” she says. Only by reading other guides will you appreciate just how far this book surpasses them. When you finish this book, not only will you be armed with the information you need, you will be charged up, ready to hunt for treasure at your local Goodwill “superstore” or garage sale.
The book is organized into sections labeled “Motivation, Preparation, Education, Inspiration, Perspiration, Innovation, and Dedication.” She elaborates on these themes with clear, concise advice that proves these aren’t just fancy chapter headings. They are cleverly-conceived elements of a grand strategy for winning hard-earned freedom in the world of ecommerce.
The high points are too numerous to list. Among them are: Lists of books Ms. Miller has sold, with the selling price; an explanation of the Amazon sales rank and how it applies to your business; inventory management, and profiles of other successful Amazon booksellers. Ms. Miller describes her strategy of selling high-dollar, slow-selling books. She offers the alternative strategy of dealing in low-profit, fast selling books. She gives pointers to help you create your own business model.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of this book for anyone who might want to start a career as an online bookseller. You have to have How to Sell Books on Amazon.

Although I am no longer a stay-at-home mom, I chose this book from all of those available since it seemed like it would best fit my beginning approach to selling books online. I picked the right book and it has been well worth the price. It covered almost every question I had and presented the information in a friendly encouraging manner. I could identify with the author’s experiences in many ways: “selling handpainted t-shirts”, home parties, etc. Been there done that! Selling books is less time intensive and more fun and you learn while doing it. You can be out with kids and shopping for books at the same time. I especially liked Christine’s encouraging style and view that “there are enough books out there for everyone” as I am not a competitive, cutthroat person and would like to enjoy the process rather than become stressed out. This book encourages you to do just that. Christine’s book helped me to focus in on the types of books to look for by giving examples of her own sales and pricing strategies. Books I would have discarded as worthless now get a second look. I will refer to this guide over and over again as I learn more about the process of selling. Thanks for taking the time to write this and share your knowledge. Donna B. Elkins Park, PA

When I decided to attack my book buying & selling religiously, I turned Christine E. Miller’s manual into my bible & my prayers were answered.
Before reading this guide, I thought I knew what it took to search out used books, list them, and make $1000/month. The author convinced me that I didn’t have to settle for this if I expanded my search area, invested in what she calls a “look-up tool,” and expanded my inventory three-fold.
She walks the neophyte through the process of buying, stocking, listing, and shipping in an upbeat, sometimes humorous tone. Especially strong was the section on pricing, sales rank, and availability. How many of us have looked at price alone without taking into account how long it make take to move the book or how many other copies were listed?
Before reading the book, I had thought I could pick up some tips on where to buy books online, but she makes it clear that her suggestions on locales were for brick and mortar only.
A new bookseller tends to list a title quickly just to get the process going. Christine’s Appendices section helps new and seasoned sellers learn/review Amazon’s listing guidelines and terminology. Who knew that words like “sunned,” “cocked,” and “foxed” can be used to describe books?
Many new booksellers are stymed by other bookscouts’ special beeping devices. This manual’s list of “look-up tools” and pricing software websites, while not complete, answers many of these questions.
Just because you’ve shipped out a book doesn’t necessarily mean you’re finished with it either. This manual deals with confirmation letters and letters to request negative feedback removal.
I’ve read Christine Miller’s book cover to cover, and am confident that I made the right decision in giving up a career teaching middle school Language Arts for the “rush” that comes from seeing that Amazon email telling me I’d sold another book. Thank you Christine.

I love books and wanted to investigate selling them on Amazon, so I bought this book. It basically gave me everything I needed to know to get started, and the incentive to try. Although I am still very small, just selling a few books a week, I am in the process of building my inventory and have found that Ms. Miller is right – this is a do-able and profitable business and this book was absolutely invaluable in helping me to get started, and I am going to re-read it again as a continuing reference.

Yes, it’s true that Amazon itself does a good job of being user-friendly for sellers, but for new-to-the-business folks like me, this is a terrific guide. It’s like hiring a personal trainer who’s at your side when you want her. It’s like exercise–yes, you can do it all by yourself, but it does help to have that one-on-one expertise.
Miller is organized, clear and concise and, she’s got a cheeky sense of humor to relieve tension and remind you that, yes, you can do this and it’s going to be fine and it’s going to be fun! The format is actually easier to use than a paperback book because I can prop it open on the desk to refresh my memory as I work and for whatever step I’m at: creating an accurate listing, contacting customers, finding tools and services to take it to the next level, and so on. In addition, her insider tips from her years in the business are quite helpful and easy to follow.
This is a particularly helpful first guide and then you can graduate and move onto the more sophisticated and involved stuff. Great investment.
